Paul “Bas” Basagoitia’s story is one that’s near and dear to the Ride Concepts family and the rest of the mountain bike community. Bas grew up in small-town Minden, Nevada, not far from friend and fellow legend Cam Zink, from whom he borrowed a bike from in his early career. In 2004, Bas won the inaugural Crankworx in Whistler on the borrowed bike and went on to win Crankworx the following year. Bas has been featured in multiple intro and closing segments of the New World Disorder series and was the first rider to land a 720 on a mountain bike. Bas then transitioned from slopestyle to big mountain. In 2015, Bas broke his back at the Red Bull Rampage and was left paralyzed from the waist down. He saw no other choice than to put in the work and do the impossible to beat paralysis, turning a negative moment into a positive inspiration. Bas started to self-shoot his recovery. The documentary was soon picked up by HBO Sports and Red Bull Media House. In 2020, “Any One of Us” won a Sports Emmy. Today, Bas walks with a cane, rips an e-bike and is the Athlete Manager for Ride Concepts.
